Free Pattern Tuulikki Mittens Pattern: Sini Kramer

Soft, cosy and warm — just like perfect winter mittens should be. The rich golden
colour of the sample pair reminds me of the sun that may not always be in sight, but that is waiting for us just below the horizon.

CONSTRUCTION
These mittens are worked seamlessly starting from the cuff and feature a

DIRECTIONS
CUFF
CO 44 (48, 52) sts using the Twisted German CO method. Divide sts evenly onto two needles. Sts for the palm will be on N1 and sts for the back of the hand on N2.
Begin to work in rib as follows:
Rib Rnd: *K2, p2* to end of rnd.
Cont to work in est 2 x 2 Rib until rib measures approx. 4.75" / 12 cm.
Work the next 5 (7, 9) rnds as follows:
N1: K to end;
N2: Work in Broken Rib Patt to end.

Left mitten

Rnd 1: N1: K19 (21, 23), PM, m1r, k2, m1l, PM, k1;
N2: Work in Broken Rib Patt to end. (2 sts inc’d).

DECREASES
Begin to work the decreases on the sides of the palm as follows:

N2: K1, k2tog, work in Broken Rib to 3 sts bef end, ssk, k1. (4 sts dec’d)
Cont to work decreases on every rnd until 8 sts remain.
Cut yarn, thread it through the remaining sts and pull to close. Pull the yarn end through the tip to the WS.
THUMB
Make the thumb. Place the sts from hold onto the needles, dividing the sts evenly onto two needles. Pick up an additional
3 sts around the thumb opening to avoid
a hole. [17 (19, 21) sts]
K 1 rnd.
Next Rnd: K to 6 sts bef end, *k2tog*
3 times. [14 (16, 18) sts]
Cont to work in St St until your thumb is covered when you try on the mittens.
Dec Rnd: *K2tog* to end. [7 (8, 9) sts]
Cut yarn, thread it through the remaining sts and pull to close. Pull the yarn end through the tip to the WS.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Steam block to measurements to keep the airy texture.
